Lynnwood, Washington, is a city in Snohomish County, located 16 miles north of Seattle and 13 miles south of Everett. Originally a logging and farming community, the Lynnwood area was settled by homesteaders in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. One of its earliest developments, Alderwood Manor, was established as a planned farming community. By the late 1940s, Lynnwood began to coalesce as a residential and commercial area centered around the intersection of Highway 99 and 196th Street Southwest. The city was named for the wife of a local realtor and officially incorporated on April 23, 1959.
The construction of Interstate 5 and Interstate 405 transformed Lynnwood into a thriving suburban city with convenient access to the greater Seattle area. The opening of Alderwood Mall in 1979 marked a pivotal moment in the city’s development, establishing it as a retail powerhouse.
